Around Our Town

Toowoomba is rapidly becoming one of the most popular tourism spots in Queensland, well known for its exciting history as well as its parks and gardens, not to mention the University of South Queensland with many overseas students.

Toowoomba is renowned for its spectacular views, which come from being nestled about 700 metres above sea level on the edge of the Great Dividing Range.

There is much to see and do in this thriving city of more than 90,000 people.

Nothing reinforces Toowoomba’s reputation as the Garden City more than the annual Carnival of Flowers held in September each year. The city’s magnificent public parks and gardens are groomed to reach a peak during carnival time and individuals spend months preparing their gardens for the keenly contested garden competition.

Other key events include – Australian Gospel Music Festival – Toowoomba Country Music Roundup – Veteran & Vintage Toowoomba Swap – Weetwood & Toowoomba Cup – to name but a few.

Sport activities for all ages, and for all levels of fitness, are big features of life in Toowoomba. With an abundance of playing fields, indoor arenas, aquatic facilities, clubs and associations, the city and its surrounding areas provide plenty of scope for those who enjoy the social contact and keen competition.

For culture why not visit one of the 30 fine galleries and antique stores in Toowoomba and surrounds. Art lovers can visit the Regional Gallery with it’s showing of fine art and drawings, also rare collection of books and manuscripts. Cobb & Co Museum is another must for visitors which houses Australia’s largest collection of horse-drawn vehicles.

Toowoomba’s Empire Theatre is the largest regional theatre in Australia. Local talent and international companies are attracted to this theatre, along with the Toowoomba Reparatory Theatre and USQ’s Performance Theatre and Recreation Centre.
